The Scissors - 'hats on' at the Band Competition Grand Final!

BBC Cambridgeshire got a bit confused by our headgear with this review (it was actually guitarist Toby wearing the tricorn hat...)

The Scissors
The penultimate band of the bill and it's the turn of 'The Scissors' to take to the stage. The only band to consciously change the aesthetics of their instruments, the band have a certain theatricality about them, not least because the members appear to take on the role of numerous protagonists with every performance.

This time saw the turn of the bassist to change persona, performing under the guise of a pirate, with the aid of a hat that refused to leave his head throughout the performance; a remarkable feat considering the enthusiasm of his response to the adoring applause of the audience. The Scissors own a defined look on a stage this size, and own a certain naivety that remains appealing to a vast majority of the spectators, and ultimately saw the band sail through a mid tempo set without any notable threats.

The Scissors - BBC Cambridgeshire review of Heat Two

The Scissors (Winners of Heat 2)
Aesthetically, there was always going to be one band that stood out from the sizeable crowd, and they perform under the guise of ‘The Scissors’.

Comparable to ‘Panic at the Disco!’ due to their apparent involvement in the revival of Parisian theatricality, but resounding within the boundaries of a far more credible genre, ‘The Scissors’ were as endearing as they come. They had the strongest songs of the heat, when originality, crowd response and the tightness with which they played were considered, and when accompanied by the atmosphere created by the band, made for an irresistible live show, that when performed on a bigger stage, would feel at home within the boundaries of a stage production.
The Scissors were the most popular band to play thus far in the heat, eventually winning the beer cheer and overall on points. Full review here

The Scissors win Heat Two of Cambridge Band Competition 2009!

The Scissors are through to the grand final of this year's Cambridge Band Competition, which will take place on Friday 15 May at Cambridge Corn Exchange, Wheeler Street.

Heat Two saw the Scissors compete alongside The Running Mayfairs, The Scene is Dead and Villa Savoye.

Thanks to everyone who came along to shout jump dance and scream - hope to see as many of you again at the final!

The Scissors compete in Cambridge Band Competition 2009!

We're massively excited to be taking part in the 2009 Cambridge Band Competition! This is one of the main events on the Cambridge music scene calendar, and there'll be a lot of noise about it (and in it).
We'll be playing in the heat on 21 April at the Soul Tree (Wheeler Street, Cambridge).
We need you! Please come along and dance, jump and scream at us - the more noise you make, the better we play!
