Our Christmas gift to you - 'Daylight Cinema' remastered!

Happy (slightly early) Christmas!
To celebrate the festive season, we've made our 2010 debut album available now remastered and with bonus tracks!
Head over to our Bandcamp page and 'name your price' (you can choose '£0.00' and get the whole album just by adding your email address to our mailing list).
You can preview all the tracks first if you like, or just dive in. We recommend the latter, obviously.
Enjoy! Happy Christmas!

Scissors-Who at Mill Road Winter Fair

Pic by Nicola K
A huge thanks to everyone who came to see us (and a huge thanks to Mill Road Winter Fair for having us play)! We had a great time, and it wasn't even that cold!
Seeing as it was a fair, we raided the Scissors' dressing up box and donned the attire of Doctor Whos (from left to right) Pertwee, Smith, Troughton and Baker.
'Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow'!

Mill Road Winter Fair - this Saturday! Fancy dress quite likely...

We're massively excited to be playing https://www.facebook.com/MillRoadWinterFair this Saturday! We're so excited, we've raided the Scissors' dressing up box and will be playing in fancy dress. Just because we can. But what's the theme of our costumes? WHO knows... You'll just have to come along at 2pm at Ditchburn Gardens to find out!

There's a nice little mention in Local Secrets too!

Keep warm this winter - by dancing like a mad thing!

We're proud to be playing this year's Mill Road Winter Fair on Saturday 7 December (at Ditchburn Gardens stage, at 2pm). There are events, activities and special offers in many of the shops, restaurants and other businesses all along Mill Road, and in some of the side streets, at different times all day long. This includes a huge variety of music!

You can read the full programme or visit www.millroadwinterfair.org to find out what's on.

Don't forget your gloves! - 'never attempt anything without the gloves!'

'Daylight cinema' remastered edition coming soon!

Seeing as we've almost sold out of physical copies of our 2010 debut album 'Daylight Cinema', we thought we'd take the opportunity to remaster it and do a new edition. The original release was, for various reasons, a bit quiet and not mastered exactly as intended!

The new release will have sleeve notes about the context and recording of the album, some great photos from the launch gig, and memorabilia - enabling you to relive those heady days of winter 2009-10! Ahh, the whimpering dog of nostalgia...
We've also included two bonus tracks: the original demo version of dub excursion 'Over and out' (sounding pretty different to the released track), and an earlier recording of 'Lucy for London', dating back to the Scissors' early days, which appeared on podcasts and give-away CDs at gigs.

It's also in a different colour. Just because.

More news about a release date etc soon!

Special guests confirmed for 12 September!

We're proud to announce that we have The Von Nitros as our special guests at Cambridge Cornerhouse on 12 September!
If you haven't already experienced their heady mix of 60s surf, psych and garage you're in for a real treat!
S'gonna be an awesome night - see you down the front!

Return to the Cornerhouse, 2 September

Sadly we weren't available to play this year's Buzz Weekend at the fabled Cambridge Cornerhouse, but we're there in a few weeks, on 12 September.

Don't know who else is on the bill as yet but we're sure it'll be a cracking night anyhow!

'Those of you in the cheaper seats, rattle your beer glasses'

Big thanks to everyone who came and saw us last weekend, either at Curious Yellow Weekend, or The Elm Tree - glad you liked the new songs we debuted! It was nice that Stagger Indie made the Elm Tree set their gig-of-the-week - cheers guys!

We'll now (inbetween holidays) try and finish work on our new as yet untitled album - although we like Stagger Indie's suggestion of 'Never Trust The Scissors' - part of which will be a sort of connected song-cycle. Sounds dangerously prog, but we think you'll like it!

Counting down to Curiousity...

We've been busy rehearsing some brand new songs to debut at this weekend's gigs - first up, we're counting down to Friday's slot at Peterborough's Curious Yellow Weekend.
We're proud to be opening the main stage on Friday afternoon! We have a limited number of tickets available (at a discounted price!) for first-come-first-serve - DM us if you want to get your hands on one!

Staggered!

Thanks Stagger for playing our track 'Afternoons' on yesterday's (great) show on Cambridge 105!
It's a taster for next week when we'll be live on the show, talking about the new tracks we're working on, playing some of them, and spinning some other records that we like and think you should hear.
Don't miss!

'Dance dance dance to the radio!' Rebel Arts Radio

If you missed it, Rebel Arts Radio played several tracks from the fantastic R*E*P*E*A*T compilation 'Rocket to Romsey' on 11 March.  The entire show is up to listen to on Mixcloud, and we're on it at about 64 minutes in.
They've asked us to come on the show later in the year, so watch this space - it'll be after we've finished recording the new songs we're currently working on...

'When I say I'm in love you best believe I'm in love L-U-V'

As you'll know if you've seen us live, we borrow the line from (we thought) the New York Dolls and the Shangri-Las as an opening to our song 'Do you believe in modern love?'.

I just stumbled across an interesting blog entry from Jazz Funk Greats about the various bands who have used that as an opening line. Turns out it's like the Kevin Bacon game!

It's good to know we're part of a great(er) heritage!

Summer live gigs...

We're sorting our dates for the summer onwards. First confirmed are

5 July at the Curious Yellow Weekend festival just outside Peterborough. We're playing on the Friday afternoon, exact timeslot TBC. It's a whole three days of great music with a fairly eclectic mix of bands. Promises to be awesome!

7 July at The Elm Tree, Cambridge - by contrast, an intimate evening with the Scissors at our favourite real ale and Belgian beer pub. As before, we'll play two sets, up close and personal!

More dates as they come in... keep your eyes on our 'Gigs' page for info!

Tuesday 5 February 2013

A break from gigs for a short while...

Thanks to everyone who came to see us live in the start of 2013; we're taking a short break to finish working on our new songs and record them properly...
Watch this space for recording news (and summer gigs when they're confirmed)!

Revamped website!

We've given our website a bit of a refresh so you can find stuff more easily.
  • There's a new 'Music' tab at the top, which lets you hear (and buy, if you like) our music (both albums and EP).
  • There's also a 'Video' tab, where you can see some great footage of Scissors in action at various gigs, including the professionally filmed set at Epic Studios in Norwich in July 2012.
  • We've also included a 'Press' tab so you can read what other people have said about us. Nice things, obviously...
It's all pretty self explanatory really - go check it out and let us know what you think!

Kick off February in style!

We're playing Cambridge's lovely Man On The Moon next Friday (1 February) alongside

Buzzard Kings
Cookie and the Feedback
and more!

More info soon as we have it - but rest assured it'll be a great night! See you there!

Snow can't stop the rock - Cambridge Junction Fiver 18 January

Big, big thanks to everyone who came and made last night's Junction Fiver such a great night! Shame the weather kept Volunteers from getting there (we loved their track 'Straight Edge Kids Make Me Wanna Binge Drink' from the Rocket to Romsey compilation). But Veteran, Prince Among Thieves and Whisky Jax were all awesome. As were the audience - it was great to see lots of jumping about and waving of arms at the front!
Pic by Liz, of Toby either wrestling with some artful feedback in his solo, or pointing his arse at the audience. Use your skill and judgement to decide which...

And thanks to Gary Brown at the Junction for asking us to play! Hopefully do it again sometime!

Thursday 10 January 2013

At the Junction next week!

We're excited to be playing Cambridge Junction next Friday as part of the Junction Fiver (that's five bands for a fiver, folk)! Full details...

The line up is:
Whisky Jax
Prince Among Thieves
Volunteers
The Scissors
Veteran

Should be a great night - hope to see you there!
